Elizabeth Royte, author of Garbage Land: On the Secret Trail of Trash, was on campus in October, visiting classes and discussing her book.

Are you interested in using this book in your classes but not sure how? Would you like to discuss curriculum ideas with your colleagues? Join us for an interactive discussion on ways to use the text in the spring semester.

Lunch will be provided.

Talk by Heather Rogers

Heather Rogers, author of Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage, will give a free talk about household garbage in the United States.

Ms. Rogers is a writer, journalist, and filmmaker, and has written on the environmental effects of mass consumption for the New York Times Magazine, The Nation, Utne and Architecture.

Her first book, Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage, traces the history and politics of household garbage in the United States. It was named an Editor’s Choice by the New York Times Book Review and a nonfiction choice by The Guardian.

Her documentary film, also titled Gone Tomorrow, screened in festivals around the globe. You can see her film online at:

Movie: Garbage! The Revolution starts at Home is a feature documentary showing where a family’s three months worth of garbage goes and how it affects the environment – 76 minutes. (Feel free to come and watch whatever part you can.) Popcorn provided.

October 15, 2008

Elizabeth Royte, the author of Garbage Land, will be giving a free talk, open to the public, at 7 pm at Champaign Public Library.

October 16, 2008

Ms. Royte will be spending the day at Parkland College with students and staff.

From 10-11:15 am she will give a talk to students, staff and interested members of the community in room C118, followed by a question/answer period and book signing.

There will be a faculty luncheon with the author in the Center, from 12-1 pm.
